What does this Magento product import error mean: “” is no valid value for “type”?

You probably tried to use an import to update existing products, but gave a wrong SKU. For example, because you changed the SKU online after initially creating the product, but but still refer to the old SKU when trying to update.

Discussion: Because you gave a SKU of a non-existing product, Magento assumes you want to create rather than update a product. When creating a product, the product “type” field (simple product, configurable product etc.) value is mandatory, but you did not have that column it in your CSV data for updating products.

I think it doesn’t really matter what does it mean. It is better to know how to avoid this error))…. because, personally i faced it about a month ago and didn’t know what to do. So i decided to try automated import services, tools and extensions. So now i am using this service. It is absolutely error-free. So if you want to avoid import errors, guys, use automated services.

This error means that you need to check if the field has the values indicated, if not, input them. In case all the data are there, try to open the file using any spreadsheet program making sure that character set has UTF-8 encoding.
I did a search on the web and found answers to my import problems.
